Kaliningrad Region to receive Full Digital TV Signal by End of 2010

  The Kaliningrad Region will receive a digital TV signal in full by the end of 2010 according to the governor of the Region Georgy Boos. He went on to clarify that the switch to a digital format will be carried out within the frameworks of the appropriate regional program, the development of which started in 2005.

  The support of the President of the General Satellite Corporation Association of Radio Electronic Equipment Producers and Traders A.Tkachenko, will aid this development. The Corporation is the General investor for the project “Technopolis Gousev”. This will make it possible to supply STBs to the region at a price lower than the selling value – the average price of an STB is now estimated at around 1550 roubles, and in the next year will decline to approximately 1000 roubles.

  Georgy Boos stressed that the Region Authorities are looking into the purchase of digital STBs at the expense of the Kaliningrad Region budget for 60-70 thousand households classified as vulnerable as well as for certain social institutions.
