Production of Digital STB to Begin this Summer in Kaliningrad

  Minister of Communications Mr. Igor Schegolev stated at a working meeting with Prime Minister of the RF Vladimir Putin: “The new plant in Kaliningrad will begin producing digital STBs by the summer 2009.”

  According to RIA Novosti the Minister said: “I was in Kaliningrad not long ago, where construction of the plant for STB production is presently coming to an end. The production lines are set to start operating this summer.”

  According to Mr. Schegolev, the equipment produced at the new plant will provide TV subscribers with the ability to receive programs directly from Russian satellites.

  “The production is of high quality and in a number of aspects it is ahead of the imported analogues, and in respect to price it is in advance even of wares produced in China” said the Minister of Communications.

  In response to a question by Mr. Putin, Mr. Schegolev clarified that production volumes are to reach more than 2 mln pcs per year.

  Mr. Shchegolev also reported that the Ministry of Communications is currently developing strategies for the substitution of imported wares in information and communication technology equipment production. “There are companies who have already taken quite good positions on our market as well as on foreign markets – from fiber optic cable production to finished high-tech equipment. This includes both commutative and final equipment,” - said the Minister.

  The aim of this action is to implement national policies in respect to Quality: promoting business, improving the quality of life, and providing a stable positive image of our region in the international community.
