General Satellite Corporation Raises Russia’s Status in Telecommunications

  The General Satellite Corporation has become the only Russian producer admitted as a member to AEPOC (European Association for the Protection of Encrypted Works and Services). At the IV Symposium in Geneva on the prevention of telecommunications and interactive service piracy, the General Satellite Corporation was admitted to membership in AEPOC. The unanimous vote for admittance at the General Assembly of the Association is an indicator of world recognition of the Russian digital TV receivers’ developer and manufacturer. The General Satellite Corp. is the sole producer in Eastern Europe to have been admitted to this representative organization.

  As the fight with counterfeit goods drags on, laws are toughened, and intellectual property and the rights of copyright owners is sought to be protected, producers become more and more serious about protecting their interests. Indeed, the fight with piracy has become one of the major conditions set by the USA for Russia before entrance into the World Trade Organization. Nowadays not only the State, but the telecommunication market players are interested in legalization of this field as well.
