Concept of Technopolis - a Basis for Efficient Production

Technopolis – a single territorial entity, which includes the industrial or research center along with everything else necessary for it to be fully functional. Technopolis also includes all the elements of social infrastructure such as kindergartens, schools, recreational facilities, etc. The goal of the concept of Technopolis is to increase profitability and efficiency of R&D and manufacturing scientific and manufacturing activities. There are about three dozen similar formations, according to the Russian state accreditation data. The town of Gousev, Kaliningrad region, – one of the hotbeds of the domestic innovative industry, – has a special place among such formations.

The opening of “DTS" Research and Production Association” and "Prankor" Ltd plants in 2009 marked the start of the project. The plants' production is unique in Russia. Receivers for satellite and terrestrial TV and satellite antennas are manufactured there, and it should be noted that everything is produced and performed on site, from a motherboard to a case and ready to use set-top box. All such devices had to be imported before the plants were commissioned, mostly from China. Current production capacity of the “DTS” plant is up to 3.5 million STBs. The “Prankor” plant has a capacity of 4 million TV sets and over 800 thousand satellite dishes per annum. The General Satellite Corporation has already invested more than 800 million rubles in the Technopolis Project, while the total amount of investment is expected to reach 5 billion rubles. The company's plans provide for the entire Kalininrgad region to have quality digital television and all other necessary equipment by the end of 2010, and the construction of the Technopolis Gousev to be completed in 2012. The Project area will be more than 700 hectares, all the necessary infrastructure will be available for the General Satellite Corporation's industrial enterprises to operate at full capacity. The future Technopolis will not only return a profit on investment, supplying a domestic market with unique and competitive equipment, but will also set new, higher standards of living for ordinary people, who will be provided with everything necessary to live a full life.

The Technopolis Project was made possible in no small part thanks to the support of regional authorities, first of all, of the governor. Officials have reacted favorably to the investing company’s activities and requests, and the Project was given the green light in the shortest time possible, instead of the usual creaking wheels of bureaucracy. The company is now the largest employer in the region, so, despite the crisis in the town, or rather in the Technopolis Gousev, everything is all right there - the unemployment rate has already decreased to a pre-crisis level, with a downward trend. It is also worth mentioning is that the General Satellite Corporation plants' production is designed to be used for the National Program "Development of digital broadcasting in Russia for 2009-2015 years", according to which TV broadcasting the country should be switched to a digital format within the framework of a single broadcasting system by the middle of the next decade.
